A national reverse mortgage agency that promises to help homeowners “access your home equity to get cash when you need it” is among those being accused of illegally pushing a North Carolina man out of the home he owned for more than two decades.
A lawsuit, filed by attorney Jim White on behalf of 87-year-old Durham resident Robert Daniels, claims the defendants, including reverse mortgage firm American Advisors Group, targeted Daniels “with the apparent goal of taking his home.”
“If the Defendants did not act with deliberate fraudulent intent, then the only explanation for their shocking conduct is gross negligence,” the lawsuit says. It also names national reverse mortgage firm CeLink as a defendant.
“You look at the facts here, and it’s difficult to see how this was not a predatory act,” White said.
